Care & Maintenance
General Cleaning
Clean surface using water and a damp cloth, alternatively try a common cleaning agent WITHOUT abrasive components. Always rinse and dry the panel after cleaning. Do not allow the panels to remain soaked or standing in water for any period of time. Furniture polishes and similar treatments are to be avoided as they tend to create a film on the surface.
Clean using hot water, clean cloths/ paper towels. A normal cleaning agent can be used WITHOUT abrasive components, washing powders (especially heavy duty detergent), liquid or hard soaps. Wipe over the dirt with the cleaning solution, or let it soak according to the degree of soiling, then wash away with clean water and dried using either an absorbent lint free cloth or paper towels to prevent streaking. This process should be repeated if the stain persists.
Cleaning Advice & Tips:
- Anything that can potentially stain should be removed straight away to prevent any permanent damage.
- Rinsing with clean water and drying should occur after all cleaning methods listed.
- Acidic cleaning agents such as: metal cleaners should be avoided at all costs.
- Paraffin or wax residues – Carefully remove as much residue as possible with a plastic or wooden spatula, taking care not to scratch the surface. Remaining residue can be ironed off with blotting paper.
- Water-soluble dyes, lacquers & adhesives – If treated immediately, warm water should remove the stain. Dried residues can be cleaned using solvents such as ethanol, acetone, benzine or nail varnish remover.
- Solvent-based dyes, lacquers & adhesives – If treated immediately, solvents should remove the stain. Suitable solvents must be inquired from the dye, lacquer or adhesive supplier.
- Two component adhesives – These must be removed immediately with a suitable organic solvent as they cannot be removed once hardened.
- Silicone or polyurethane sealing material – Carefully remove as much residue as possible with a plastic or wooden spatula, taking care not to scratch the surface. The remaining residue can then be removed with a silicone remover.
- Streaking after cleaning with solvents – The streaks can be removed by subsequent cleaning with hot clean water and drying with a lint free absorbent cloth or paper towel.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
This is not a comprehensive list ALWAYS test an inconspicuous place of the furniture with new products.
Laminate Tops
Do not use any abrasive materials to clean the tops.
Decorative Metals
Do NOT use cleaners that contain abrasives, acids or alkalis, as they will mar the surface. Ammoniated detergents or petroleum-based cleaners should not be used to clean anodized aluminum surfaces.
Do NOT clean metal face with solvents, paint thinner or adhesive remover.
Wood Veneer
Dust regularly with a slightly damp, soft, lint-free cloth.
Wipe dry with a dry, soft cloth in the direction of the wood grain. Spills should be immediately wiped up with a damp cloth.
Oncew a month
Wipe the surface in the direction of the wood grain to remove dirt and fingerprints.
Wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth.
Twice a year
Do not use aerosol-powered cleaners or polishes.
Also, do not use polishes containing waxes or abrasives, or polishes that are oil based.
Stains
Woods and veneers meet strict testing standards for resistance to wear, light, stains, water, and pressure.
To reduce the risk of damage, take some precautions
If a glass top is added to the wood or veneer surface, be sure it rests on felt pads.
Don’t place a potted plant on a wood or veneer surface unless it’s in a water-tight container or in a drip tray.
Don’t let vinyl binders stay on a surface for very long.
Use protective pads under equipment with “rubber” cushioning feet. Some chemical compounds used in the feet on office equipment, such as printers and monitor stands, may leave permanent stains or marks.
Minor repair of water rings, stains, and scratches
Rub the surface lightly in the direction of the wood grain using No. 0000 steel wool.
Apply a scratch-removing polish with a color and value that simulate the veneer.
If the scratches are deep, consult a professional furniture refinisher.
